Creating awareness about the problem and the effect of drugs on youth and society is its primary motive. The persistence problem caused by drug use and menace of drug abuse has been featured in the flick. The story revolves around four lead characters – a rock star (Shahid Kapoor), a laborer (Alia Bhatt), a doctor (Kareena Kapoor), and a police officer (Diljit Dosanjh). All these have been featured fighting drug in their own way of living.
Udta Punjab [review] discusses the various problems which come in the way of fighting the drug abuse filled with different dangers. The audience said that it is a realistic flick with emotional journey. Moreover, there are several instances where there is a lot of usage of abusive language.
Director has done one of the brilliant works in the industry with the script. Also, Abhishek has held a fantastic grip over the narration of the movie story. He has successfully portrayed a serious way in an amazing and entertaining way.

Just finished watching #UdtaPunjab, legally. Moving, touching and thought provoking. Coming of age, brilliant performances by everyone! @aliaa08 is EXCELLENT. Performance that aspiring actor can take as a textbook and learn from. #UdtaPunjab is hers. Slow first half, and too rushed. The movie thankfully pics up brilliantly after the interval. @diljitdosanjh is fantastic and so real! @shahidkapoor ‘s most daring and impressive performance till date. No main stream actor has gone there before!
