Plane Crash During Tom Cruise’s Movie ‘Mena’ Shoot Kills 2

Plane Crash Tom Cruise movie Mena: A plane crashed during the shoot of Tom Cruise’s upcoming film ‘Mena’ leaving two crew member dead while another person was injured seriously on Friday night at Medellin, Colombia.

Tom Cruise is totally safe as reported by the Associated Press as he was not on the flight. The two dead men includes American film pilot Alan David Purwin and Colombian Carlos Berl. While, one more person who was injured badly is American pilot Jimmy Lee Garind. He was rushed to the nearby hospital immediately.

The dead American, Purwin was founder and president of Los Angeles-based Helinet Technologies, which provides aerial surveillance technology to law enforcement and government agencies. He has been a part of the blockbuster film like “Transformers”, “Pearl Harbor”, and “Pirates of the Carribean.” Not so long ago, he was featured in Variety’s Artisans video series regarding aerial photography. He tried to minimize the risk as much as possible while working in vulnerable situations.

They were flying in the twin-engine Aerostar which crashed into the Alto de la Clarita mountain due to the bad weather conditions as reported by the local authorities.

The film produced under the banner of Universal Pictures and directed by Doug Liman is being shot in Colombia since August 2015. ‘Mena’ stars Tom Cruise as Barry Seal, who initially works as a pilot for Colombian drug lord but later on turns into a spy for the Drug Enforcement Agency. The other star cast includes Jesse Plemons, Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, and Caleb Landry Jones.

A spokersperson for the Universal said, “The plane was carrying crew members which crashed into the mountain while returning to the airport. It resulted into two deaths and one serious injury. Further reports are not available yet. But the whole production team condolonces their families at this difficult time.”

‘Mena’ is the first film of its kind. It is an international production to the film incentives, cash rebates of up to 15%, offered by Medellin. It is slated to release in Jaunary 2017.
