He has done many impressive films in his career and he received a call from Rajkumar Hirani to play a supporting role in 3 Idiots in which Aamir Khan played the lead role. The movie brought Madhavan an International recognition and the movie was a huge hit at the box-office. The strong social message has been well accepted by the audience and Vidhu Vinod Chopra produced the film. Madhavan after reaching a stage became choosy about his projects.

After back to back hits like 3 Idiots and PK in the recent times, he listened to a script narrated by Sudha Kongara Prasad which impressed him. Rajkumar Hirani wanted Sudha to direct a movie and she took almost two years to complete the script work of the film.
Then the original challenge started as the makers got busy searching for the right cast for this sports drama. R Madhavan got impressed with the script and he wanted to be a part which relaxed the makes. Madhavan was always seen in a class look and he worked out to look fit and ruggish as a boxer in the film which took almost two years to shape his body.
Saala Khadoos featured R Madhavan and Ritika Singh in the lead roles and the movie has been shot simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi languages. Sudha Kongara Prasad took enough care on the script and came up with a gripping screenplay and the movie has been made on a crisp runtime. Rajkumar Hirani along with R Madhavan produced the Hindi version of the film on Rajkumar Hirani Films and Tricolour Films.

SaalaKhadoos opened with positive reviews all over and the movie released in limited screens across the world. The Tamil and Hindi versions released in 902 screens across the country and the movie minted Rs 2.19 crores.
With positive word of mouth, the film picked up well and SaalaKhadoos collected Rs 9.3 crores in the first weekend which has been decent. The tamil version of the film too received decent response and is collecting huge money all over. R Madhavan and the makers of the film have been promoting the movie extensively all over.
