The Magicians Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Finally! We got a Magicians episode that does not push forward so many stories at once. Many of the viewers would now get a better understanding of the story. The series has, at last, caught up with the pace. (read: Supergirl s1e14 review.)
In the episode which is titled “Impractical Applications”, things finally worked out for the Breakbills but Julia meets with some horrible fate. The show aired on Syfy on the night of twenty-two February at nine thirty.
The Magicians Season 1 Episode 6 Review
At the start of the episode, we see senior students running more tests on their juniors, which is somewhat obnoxious. Had the characters of the professors been introduced a bit better, there wouldn’t have been any need for these tests. More time should have been spent on the depiction of the professor characters. Also, Breakbills don’t seem to be good at teaching. Keeping an exhaustive curriculum and maintaining strict discipline is one thing, but expelling students at tiniest of mistakes or failures is not cool at all.
Penny and Quentin are fighting over issues like ever. Quentin’s guy next door attitude and fanboy behavior are not helping Penny in controlling the Beast at all. But when to cheat on one of the trials, they seem to share a connection and ultimately, form a team. We should get ready for some Fillory mystery that may be heading towards us in upcoming episodes.
Kady’s story has progressed, but it’s still confusing. We learn that she is trapped in the Marina due to her mother’s fault but we are still unclear on the rules of trapping someone. Also, her relationship with Penny is confusing as she is with and against him at different times.
Meanwhile, Julia works hard for something which fails and someone dies in front of her. This clearly draws a line between the need to do magic and a drug addiction. She lies to James in telling him what actually was wrong with her. Her story is only going to get darker, as I don’t think she would stop at anything unless something happens to her which would be unfixable.
It looks like Quentin needs some help too. After his fight with Julia and talking to his father about death, he is into deep thinking mode and expresses his experience he got at Beakbills. Magic is not helping him becoming a person he doesn’t want to be. We’d like to see him becoming someone better.
