Akshay Kumar signed a movie titled Airlift after he listened to the script two years ago. Raja Krishna Menon narrated the script which impressed him completely. Raja Krishna Menon worked on the script for almost two years and he narrated the final draft to Akshay after which he suggested some changes.

The shoot of the film started last year and the movie has been planned on a limited budget of Rs 40 crores as it was an experiment. The makers of the movie wanted to wrap up the complete shoot in two schedules and Airlift has been shot for over 75 working days.

Airlift was successful to make some money during the period from Monday to Thursday and that comes to 5 crores in total

Akshay Kumar has taken huge care on the movie and the makers wanted to get a crisp runtime to keep the film engaging and entertaining. The evacuation episodes have been trimmed to keep the audience sit interested. The movie is about the biggest human evacuation that happened in Kuwait during Kuwait – Iraq civil war. Many Indians have been stuck during this war and became homeless. Airlift evacuated 1.70 lakh Indians from Kuwait during the war and this has never been discussed anywhere till date. This excited Akshay Kumar and he wanted Raja Krishna Menon to reveal it with intensive narration.

Airlift released on January 22nd and the movie has been declared as a blockbuster. The movie received positive response all over and it collected Rs 83.2 crores in its opening weekend. The movie maintained strength even in the second week and it minted huge money all over. The movie has been a smashing hit overseas and the movie collected Rs 50 crores all over the world. Airlift collected Rs 124.55 crores in 21 days across the world.

Nikhil Adwani, Monisha Advani, Aruna Bhatia, Madhu G Bhojwani, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra produced the movie on Abundantia Entertainments, Cape of Good Films, Emmy Entertainments, T-Series and Hari Om Entertainments banners.
