Raja wanted to start the film immediately but his excitement made him wait. He gave huge freedom for the director and he asked him to come out w ith a bound script that will surprise the audience. The movie is based on a real incident that took place in Kuwait but it has never been discussed in the history.
The movie has been made on a budget of Rs 25 crores and the film featured Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur in the lead roles. The film has been shot in Dubai, Delhi, Rajasthan and in Mumbai. Airlift is about the biggest evacuation that happened in the history of the world during the civil war that took place between Kuwait and Iraq in 1986.
Lakhs of Indians have been evacuated back to the country which has been called Airlift. Nikhil Adwani, Monisha Adwani, Aruna Bhatia, Madhu G Bhojwani, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra produced the movie on Abundantia Entertainments, Cape of Good Films, Emmay Entertainments, T Series and Hari Om Entertainments banners.

The film completed one month of its run and is still running successfully in some of the territories across the country. Akshay Kumar’s outstanding performance has been widely appreciated.
