The interesting thing about the finale was that both the finalists were from Mississippi. The 24-year-old Trent defeated La’Porsha Renae to clinch the title after numerous rounds of the competition.

Harmon suprisingly won as the judges had given more points to the 22-year-old Renae. As soon as he heard the result, Trent fell down on the floor and in tears, he praised the other finalist.

“I know that I have a God-given ability, but I didn’t want to take it for granted. I wanted to work so, so hard, and [Renae] pushed me to do it,” he said.

Prior to getting involed in this championship, the winner used to work as a waiter at the restaurant of his family. Trent grew up on a farm and referred him as a ‘dude from Mississippi’.

The efforts of Renae weren’t small. She being a single mother overcame the domestic violence and competed for the dance reality tv show. She successfully impressed the audiences and judges more with her melodious and powerful voice.

As per the last year’s report of Fox, the singing talent show ‘American Idol’ will end with its season 15 finale. The 15th season of the show was started by the US President Barack Obama with his taped message.

Obama also said that people won’t mind giving votes to him as they don’t mind giving votes to their favorite singer contestant on the show.

The first season took place in 2002 and Simon Puller and Simon Cowell launched the show. It is an American adaptation of their hit UK series Pop Idol. Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson were the judges.

The show paved the way for the inception of new TV talent contests like The X Factor and The Voice. It made talent hunt shows wealthy.

Kelly Clarkson was the first winner. After winning the show, his professional career as a singer begun. The show launched the careers of other stars such as Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, and Adam Lambert.

The grand finale witnessed the performances from earlier contestants. It included Underwood, Hudson, Cook, Fantasia, Studdard, Sparks, and Locke. Moreover, the judges of this season – Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr, and Keith Urban also performed.

The first ever judges Abdul and Jackson came to pay tribute to host Ryan Seacrest. Cowell also made his appearance, and he appeared to be emotional about the end of the show.

It was on peak in the year 2006, and it fetched the eyeballs of 36 million people. But after that, it is falling continuously in TRPs since then.

Last season, it saw 11 million viewers on an average. Young viewers declined following the trend. After the American Idol 2016 Winner was declared and while ending the show, Seacrest said “Good night, America” and “for now” when the screen faded away.
