He has been penning a script Bajirao Mastani which has been with him from the past few years.
However, he could not start the shoot of the film as he failed to cast the appropriate actors on board. Though he convinced Salman Khan for the lead role, the dispute started about the female lead after which the project got stalled. After years Sanjay Leela Bhansali felt that he got the right cast and started the movie.

It has been shot for over two years and the movie has been made on a budget of Rs 210 crores.
Ranveer Singh played Peshwa Bajirao in the film and Deepika Padukone played Mastani. Their performances along with Bhansali’s direction are said to be the major highlights of Bajirao Mastani. Priyanka Chopra played Kashibhai in the movie and Sanjay Leela Bhansali produced the movie along with Eros International.
The flick released in over 6000 screens on December 18th before Christmas and the movie opened to 50% occupancy. The movie managed to collect Rs 12.80 crores on its first day and the film collected Rs 46.77 crores in its opening weekend. The film managed to collect Rs 131.45 crores in 12 days which has been decent.

Bajirao Mastani collected Rs 7.2 crores on 13th day making the total of the movie Rs 138.65 crores. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been quite happy with the result of the film.
