Gotham Season 2 Episode 12 (S2E12) Review: “Gotham” is back! It was about time the mid-season premiere episode of Gotham was aired. I had been waiting for it since last one and a half months. Also, the audience were waiting for some comic universe stories since “The Flash” and “Arrow” are going for a break for two and four weeks, respectively. Till then, “Gotham”, “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Supergirl” would have to suffice for the action we’ll all miss due to absence of “The Flash” and “Arrow”. (watch: Norwich City vs Chelsea.)

“Gotham” is a story which centrally features James Gordon in his early days at Gotham City and also provides an insight into the origin of various other villains and characters in the Batman Universe.

Gotham Season 2 Episode 12

This week’s episode picked up from the situation where the last episode ended. Mr. Freeze, which is also the name of this episode, is seen freezing a man to death. He subsequently kills a cop, when he is interrupted while loading the body in his van. The cop was the same one who assisted Gordon in the rescue operation of Bruce Wayne.

We then see James Gordon being investigated by Harvey Dent in a follow up investigation surrounding Theo Galavan’s murder. Gordon lies to Harvey Dent and Captain Barnes about his involvement in Theo’s murder. He is reinstated and all charges against him are lifted, but Barnes and Dent find it hard to believe that Gordon was not at all involved in Theo’s murder. Later, Penguin is caught by GCPD. He takes the fall for Theo’s murder on himself, saving Gordon.

Meanwhile, Gordon is investigating the case of murders by freezing. It is revealed that Victor Fries is freezing people for cryogenic experimentation. He is doing all this in order to save his dying wife by freezing her cryogenically until a cure for her sickness is discovered and later reanimating her for treatment. His experiments are not boding well, hence, he freezes and abducts more and more people for experiments. We also get a look at change in Nygma’s personality becoming more obvious.

While all this was taking place, Penguin is transferred to Arkham Asylum, where we are introduced to Dr. Hugo Strange. Hugo Strange is the man behind human experimentation in the labs at Indian Hill. He is as despicable and menacing as he was portrayed in comics.

In the end, Victor Fries learns that his experiments have finally succeeded. Also, Hugo Strange is eying for his cryogenics innovations.
