Horror Filmmaker Wes Craven Died At 76

The horror filmmaker Wes Crevan died at the age of 76. He was suffering from brain cancer as revealed by his family.

The statement said the following, “It is informed with deep sadness that Wes Craven has passed away. He died at 76 on Sunday at 1 pm, August 30. He was at his home in Los Angeles.”

Born in Cleveland, Craven’s first directorial venture was “The Last House on the Left,” written and edited by him in the year 1972. With  the course of the time, his skills revamped and polished and then a new taste of horror genre came. After a while, he directed and written “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” which was a blockbuster (grossed over $350 million in the US alone) and created its own franchise. The list of other films includes, “The Hills Have Eyes” and its sequels, and “Scream.”

Once the director said that horror films don’t create fears instead they release it.

However, he had also worked on many non-horror films like “Paris Je T’Aime” and “Music of the Heart.” When he asked about his horror-only nature of film direction, then he replied that it was never his intention to become a horror-only director.

In 2007, during an interview with Collider, he said, “When you have been named for doing a thing, then, it becomes a general belief that you are strongly indulged in it. For being a horror director, people think that you live in a cave and do those horror-like things, etc. At some point of time, one person asked me that what would your friends feel when you would direct a romantic comedy. To him, I replied that my friends and loved ones know me very well. I am a normal person in real life.”

While being a horror director, he was a bird conservationist and member of the Audubon California Board of Directors for a long time.

He was engaged in making television programmes which include the new Scream series for MTV along with working for a graphic horror novel series.

As of now, he is survived by his wife, producer and former Disney Studios Vice President Iya Labunka, two children from previous marriage – Jonathan and Jessica, a stepdaughter – Nina Tarnawsky, and three grandchildren.

His family replied that their hearts are broken while responding to the reporters.

Wes Craven was a college professor once upon a time and very professional. He was a very warmed guy and had very good relationships with colleagues and actors.

Once he said that he always wanted to innovate and break out of his mould. With his hardships and great efforts, he succeeded with the Scream films which made he capable of directing Meryl Streep in Music of the Heart, for which she won an Academy Award.

The film fraternity expressed their sadness on the loss via social media including Courtney Cox who starred in 1996 Scream and three other films.
