Virat Kohli ahead of 1st test series in India vs West Indies in Antigua, tomorrow addressed a press conference live on Facebook. He started the PC with paying tributes to legendary hockey player Mohd Shahid. Want to pay our condolences to Mohd Shahid, he was a legend. May God be with his family and may his soul RIP. Highlighting the importance of place he stated that this place holds up special preference in his hearts as it helped him to kick off his career in test series. He further added that he is playing here test series after 2011.
Kohli added when asked by a reporter “Wicket is no different from what we play at home, will be a decent batting wicket. We are going to pick best eleven according to the situations. Shami is a complete package, he is a gun bowler and bowling very well. Hope he delivers for us.”
“Even if we do need put on a big score, we need to get enough runs so that we don’t need to bat for long the second time. This has been our mindset for the last two seasons and we want to start the series with that same mindset that our bowling should be strong enough to take 20 wickets,” Kohli added.
Taking a whole para on Shami’s play he said “Shami was unfortunately injured while he was having a great season. He bowled well in England, in Australia and in the World Cup, and in fact he has bowled well wherever he has gone. He got injured after that and was on a massive break.”
“In international cricket, you cannot count players out because of one series. KL Rahul has improved leaps and bounds as a cricketer in the last 3-4 months. He’s established himself as the third opener for India, he is a regular in the Test side, and he played in Sri Lanka as well, scored runs there,” added Kohli.
“But as a captain and team management, we need to take some hard calls at times, but it’s for the players to understand that equal opportunity will be given to everyone. It’s just that, whoever starts a Test series, he has an edge over who has to wait for his chance. But at the same time, we have four Test matches and you will get a chance at some stage,” said Kohli.
The tomorrow’s match between India and South Africa would be the 1st of test series. The match kicks off from tomorrow in leadership of new captain Virat Kohli.
