Microsoft Surface Phone News, Updates, Rumors
August 2018 Update: There won’t be any Microsoft phone lined-up to be released this year, at least. Earlier, there were plans regarding a foldable laptop-cum-phone Windows 10 device for 2018. The tech giant has stepped back from the Surface Phone/Project Andromeda as the company is not happy with the quality of the device it has made so far.
October 2017 Update: On October 8, Joe Belfiore, Microsoft’s head of Windows, tweeted that the company would continue to support the platform, but building new features isn’t their focus for now, at least. Lack of third party support due to the low number of Windows phone users is the root cause behind it.
May 3, Update: The launch event conducted by Microsoft in the month of May 2017 turned out to be for a brand new Surface device (Surface Laptop), but not for the phone. The all-new Laptop is a new rival for the Apple MacBook Air.
The OS giant hasn’t been very successful in the mobile arena and still struggles to make a considerable place for itself in the smartphone market. Thus, it is under immense pressure to make grab a significant market share.
It seems that the Surface Phone will be the last option for Microsoft. The company is already making a lot of Windows 10 Mobiles like Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL which were supposed to carry Microsoft to mobile glory, but couldn’t. Now, the tech giant needs a perfect phone for the same.
The Microsoft’s Surface team has done a good job with the Surface Pro, Surface Book, and Surface Studio and disrupted the computer industry.
Spotify will separate from Microsoft
But there is one bad news also. As per our sources, Spotify app will no longer be the partner with Microsoft Windows Phone. According to sources, Spotify is going to end development on its App for Windows Phone. A report also stated that the Spotify application has taken into maintenance mode. Hence we can expect that MSP will not have Spotify application as one of its default apps.
Due to the decreasing number of Windows Phone users, many companies have to abandon the platform. Companies like eBay, Amtrak, Samsung Smart Things, Runtastic and Delta Air Lines have abandoned this platform but still, there are some big names that have joined the Windows Store in recent months.
