Overview
The first T20 international was played at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide in which Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Indian were ready for anything as they have already lost the One Day series by 4-1 and were looking for a positive start in the T20 series. As usual Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan came on to open the innings for India.
Rohit made 31 off 20 balls with four fours and one six whereas Dhawan got out early with just five runs on the scoreboard for him. Then came on Virat Kohli who changed the match for India as he made a fast paced 90 off 55 runs with nine fours and two sixes and was not out till the end. Suresh Raina supported Kohli with his 41 off 34 balls with three fours and one six and Dhoni also did his part as he made 11 off 3 balls with one four and one six and India made a total of 188-3 in 20 overs with 10 extras.
With India’s huge total the Australians had to start well if they wanted to chase the target. Aaron Finch and David Warner opened the innings for Australia, Finch made 44 off 33 balls with four fours and two sixes and Warner made 17 off 9 balls with two fours and one six. No one else took charge of the innings and Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually got all out for 151 in 19.3 overs and India won the match by 37 runs.
