Why is Johnny Depp suing Amber Heard?

The Pirates of the Caribbean Sea actor Johnny is suing his ex-wife and Aquaman 2 actress Amber for $50 million over an op-ed article she wrote in The Washington Post in 2018. In that article, she described herself as a public figure representing domestic abuse, according to Heard.

Amber didn’t name Depp in the article directly, but Johnny claims that the article/Heard’s writing indirectly named him and has cost him acting roles. In contrast to Johnny’s suite, Amber has countersued him for $100 million as she claims that Depp and his team defamed her by referring to her claims as fake and sexual violence hoax.

Johnny and Amber were married from 2015 to 2017. They divorced, claiming the other to be physically violent. They deny each other’s claims. The former couple came across each other in 2009. They met on the set of The Rum Diary and portrayed lovers in it.
