On their side, the batting is the main issue as it was visible in the 1st ODI with 3 top order batsmen fell very quickly. Zimbabwean spinners did the maximum damage. Masakadza and Chisoro took seven wickets for just 37 runs in 11.1 overs while Nyumbu gave 19 runs in 4 overs but took no wickets.

The pitch can’t be stated as the reason for such a quick loss as after some it became flat for the rest of the day. The visitors lost the match in just 10.2 overs with one wicket.

The coach Inzamamul Haq will need to do put a lot of work to get Afghanistan a good start. Zimbabwe team need not to become arrogant with such a heavy win.

In the spotlight

Mutombodzi has improved his cricket skills. A significant improvement is visible in his batting skills as well as a leg spinner. He was the captain of Mashonaland Eagles which won the Pro50 domestic one-day title last time. In that tournament, he scored some good runs.

He became their top scorer with 500 runs in a single season. Moreover, he hit the maximum sixes and showed his potential. Samiullah Shenwari is the highest ODI scorer with 1289 runs for Afghanistan including 10 50s and he is a part time leg spinner too. His team needs his best form now.

Team news

Sean Williams didn’t play in the first game complaining the tightness in his left groin area while batting in 3rd ODI against Ireland. However, it is not a big injury and he can play in the next match. But the team wouldn’t risk him rushing him back as they have a next tournament with Bangladesh soon. Afghanistan should not do major changes in their lineup as the playing XI which played on Friday appears as their best.
