Train to Busan 2: The South Korean zombie action film Train to Busan is going to come back with its sequel. TtB2 has already been announced a long time back but the production work still hasn’t started yet. Here’s everything you need to know like cast, plot, trailer, premiere date, title, etc. Its provisional title is Bando (which means Peninsula in English).
In a conversation with Song Hye Kyo from Descendants of the Sun, she gave hints to the press about her keen interest to join Gong Yoo (Seok-woo) actor from the prequel for an upcoming project. The compatibility between the two is great and the audience gets thrilled to watch them together. Moreover, the fans are waiting to see the two in the upcoming project for the sequel.
Train to Busan 2 Release Date
2017 update: But the same is unlikely to happen as in the first movie, we saw that Yoo’s character died which probably left no door open for his return. According to Yoo, the director Yeon Sang Ho told him in some conversation that:
“The first movie ended with the demise of Yoo’s character and that has caused issues with his return. But if he gets to return in the sequel, it is possible that Seok-woo would be coming back as a Zombie. And the story/events would be told from this perspective.”
Nevertheless, the concept gives the impression of a long shot which seems to kill the daydream of fans. The viewers are yearning to achieve a constraint statement by the producers which are joined in the casting of Song Joong Ki for Train to Busan 2 to replace Yoo.
Song Joong Ki is also a starring cast of Descendants of the Sun wherein he has shown a great chemistry with Kyo. In order to catch up with their chemistry again, fans are willing to see Song Joong Ki in the sequel with Kyo.
The French studio Gaumont got the better off Hollywood studios and won the rights for the sequel in December. After the announcement, there have been no official updates regarding the release date of the sequel, its cast, etc.
In addition to that, the director Sang Ho is busy working on the comedy flick “Psychokinesis” from the last April. So, probably, it will take time for him to include TraintoBusan sequel a part of his schedule. The cast of Psychokinesis includes Ryu Seung-ryong (Miracle in Cell No. 7), Park Jung-min (Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet), Jung Yu-mi (TrainToBusan), and Shim Eun-Kyung (Miss Granny).
Update (August 2018): The director gave us a hint about the plot of the upcoming movie. He shared that TtB2 will share the same world and is still a zombie action film, but will deal with the aftermath on the peninsula of what happened in the prequel. Now, the virus has spread throughout Korea, but the characters are not the same. The locations will be different. The view will shift from a train to a city.
Regarding filming, the shoot will begin in 2019. So, the earliest possible Train to Busan 2 release date is possible in 2021. There are speculations and rumors that a cure will be found in the upcoming installment. And it opens up this zombie epidemic movie to a lot of exciting possibilities. The lead character may return as a zombie.
The original film released in 2016 and became a global hit by raking in $87.5 million worldwide, from a budget of just $8.5 million.
