Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 1 Recap
Dr. Martin Brenner arrives at Hawkins National Laboratory on September 8, 1979, ready to work. He enters the lab’s recently completed Rainbow Room, which is now filled with child experiments. Ten, who is playing with a Magic 8 Ball, asks if he’s ready for more tuition.
The lab’s scientists are working on a vaccine against the virus, but one of them is infected. The first scientist to be killed by the virus is Dr. Milton Ellis. As they pass another experiment called six in the lab, Brenner and Ten begin their studies.
Ten first demonstrates his talents to Brenner, who is using his pen as a canvas. After doing so, Brenner asks if they could try something more difficult by monitoring what Dr. Ellis and Six are doing in the adjacent room.
In a vision, Dr. Ellis and Six are conducting an experiment when Ten begins to hyperventilate, claiming that they’re screaming. Alarms begin to ring across the lab as Brenner asks what’s going on over the intercom. Ten informs him that Dr. Ellis and Six are dead after hearing the alarms go off in the lab.
In the dark corridors, a figure with a white coat and glasses approaches him. He slowly makes his way to the laboratory door, which splinters as he approaches it and smashes into him, knocking him unconscious. When he comes to, he is horrified to discover Ten has been killed by the door’s force. Outside, he sees experiments, security
When he reaches the Rainbow Room, he discovers a playroom full of dead children, with the exception of one who is standing near the shattered two-way mirror and breathing heavily. Brenner furious asks what foul experimentation has been conducted. The young Eleven, it turns out, was an experiment gone horribly wrong.
